City’s farmers market celebrating 25 years

May 16, 2011
The Altoona Mirror

Downtown Altoona will serve as home to a farmers market again this year with opening day this week.

The farmers market will celebrate its silver anniversary with the opening on Thursday in Heritage Plaza located at the corner of 11th Avenue and 14th Street in downtown Altoona, the Greater Altoona Economic Development Corp. said in a press release.

The farmers market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday throughout the summer.

"We are excited to celebrate our 25th anniversary and look forward to serving the people of Altoona and Blair County once again," said Judy Brumbaugh, farmers market coordinator, in the release.

"As more local produce comes to market we will be adding Saturday hours in Heritage Plaza as well," Brumbaugh said.

"The farmers market's opening is an unofficial beginning to summer for downtown Altoona," said Patrick Miller, executive director of GAEDC.

"We want everyone to come to the downtown where you will find ample free parking and a great selection of fresh local produce and fresh baked goods."
