Lady Colts win softball tourney

NORTHERN CAMBRIA - Becky Britton smacked a three-run homer during a five-run fifth inning Saturday, leading the Northern Cambria High School softball team to an 8-5 win over Conemaugh Township in the title game of the Northern Cambria Classic.

Britton finished with two hits for the Lady Colts (13-2), who trailed 5-3 at one point. Winning pitcher Miriah Butterworth struck out eight.

In the opener, Northern downed Bishop Carroll, 12-2, in five innings. Britton had three hits and two RBIs, while Butterworth added two RBIs.

Carroll picked up just its second win of the season when Krista Krug delivered a walk-off single to score Dani Link and lead the Lady Huskies over Portage, 1-0, in the consolation game.

In the tourney opener, Township defeated Portage, 4-1. Losing pitcher Emily McCabe struck out 12, but the Lady Mustangs committed five errors.

Altoona goes 0-2

MILL HALL - Altoona fell to 2-6 with two losses at the Central Mountain Tournament.

In the opener, the Lady Lions were shut out, 6-0, by DuBois, which had a five-run fourth inning.

In the consolation game, Lewistown beat Altoona, 6-5. The Lions, who scored four in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5, got two hits each from Kristie Mulhollem, Kayla Montgomery and Madeline Berry, and Amanda Parrish drove in two runs.

B-A wins own tourney

BELLWOOD - Bellwood-Antis took the championship of the fifth annual four-team Bellwood-Antis Junior High Softball Tournament.

Bellwood-Antis defeated Tyrone, 11-0, and West Branch, 4-3. Hollidaysburg was 1-2, defeating Tyrone, 13-2, but falling to West Branch, 4-0 and 3-1. The Lady Devils defeated West Branch, 10-2, in the final.

Correction

Central's Marrisa Ayers and Kylie Gunnet hit solo home runs on Friday in the team's softball game against Clearfield. Due to incorrect information received, that information appeared incorrectly in Saturday's Mirror.
