Tigers sweep Dragons in track and field

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Michael Appleman won the 200 dash and was a part of two winning relay teams as the Hollidaysburg boys track and field team defeated Central, 95-53 Thursday.

Lindsay Parnell (long jump, triple jump), Michelle Muir (high jump, 300 hurdles), Alexis Preston (200 dash, 400 dash) and Lauren Pheasant (1,600 run, 800 run) each won two events for the Hollidaysburg girls in a 115-34 victory over Central.

Altoona teams place

PHILADELPHIA - Two Altoona girls relay teams placed in the top six of their heats at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.

The 400 relay team of Tierra Williams, Alexia Servello, Nikki Kerns and Kelly Davis finished fifth with a time of 51.93. Edwin Allen High School from Jamaica won with a time of 45.97, which was the fastest time in the relay. Abington (48.14). Appoquinimink, Del. (51.08) and Archbishop Molloy, N.Y. (51.78) were second through fourth.

The 1600 relay team of Alexis Ebersole, Davis, Williams and Kerns placed sixth with a season-best time of 4:14.83. Shoreham, N.Y. won in 4:08.92, while Baltimore Tech (4:10.71), Central, Md (4:12.83), Syosset, N.Y. (4:12.84) and West Orange, N.J. (4:12.98) took second through fifth.

B-A boys move to 14-0

TYRONE - Jared Minori won all three throwing events, as Bellwood-Antis ran its high school boys track and field record to 14-0 with a 115-35 win over Tyrone. The Blue Devils also swept the relays, and Zach Sinisi got B-A first-place points in both hurdle races.

Tyrone beat Juniata Valley, 130-18, behind wins from Nick Patton in the 200 and 400, Charles Wilson in the high and long jumps and Rich Stever in the mile and two-mile runs.

Emiley Stapleton finished first in the 800 and 1,600 runs as the Bellwood-Antis girls cruised to a 121-28 victory over Tyrone. The Lady Blue Devils also won all three relay races.

Juniata Valley scored an 84-54 win against Tyrone despite Jordyn Swogger's first-place finishes in the 100, 200 and 400.

Everett sweeps

MOUNT UNION - The Everett boys track and field team had three double winners as it swept a tri-meet against Southern Huntingdon 81-69, and host Mount Union 93-56.

Blade Rhoat picked up victories in the 100 dash and 200 dash. Barkley Rhoat took top honors in the long jump and triple jump, and Chris Collins finished first in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles for the Warriors.

Baylee Beegle was a double winner in the long and 200 dash as the Everett girls swept Mount Union, 121-27, and Southern Huntingdon, 90-60.

NBC pair has big day

HANOCK, Md. - Maria Snyder and Leah Hershberger each won two events on Wednesday for the Northern Bedford girls at the Tri-State Invitational at Hancock High School in Maryland.

Snyder won both the 1600 and 3200 while Hershberger captured the high jump and the triple jump.

The Lady Panthers finished first with 134 points. Tussey Mountain was third with 106 points in the 10-team field.

On the boys side, Northern Bedford put up 160 first-place points despite not having any one win more than one event. Tussey Mountain finished eighth with 43 points among the 11 schools.

CC boys, girls win

EBENSBURG - Central Cambria defeated Richland, 94-56, Westmont Hilltop, 116-33 and Bishop Carroll, 144-6, in boys track Wednesday.

Richland topped Westmont, 104-46 and Bishop Carroll, 130-19. Westmont topped Carroll, 121-23.

Central Cambria's Brandon Byrne won the javelin with a toss of 157 feet, eight inches and discus with a throw of 124 feet, 6 inches.

The Red Devils' Tyler Melius won the 400 dash with a time of 53.7 and the 800 run in 2:10.

Renee Cook won the discus and the javelin, while Kendall Seymour prevailed in the mile and two-mile runs to power the undefeated Central Cambria girls over Richland (93-56), Bishop Carroll (132-9) and Westmont Hilltop (96-50).

Central Cambria is 9-0.

Bishop Carroll also lost to Westmont, 105-31, and Richland, 128-18. Richland's Paige Lumley won both hurdle races in addition to the long and triple jumps.
