James Harrison Family Foundation gets support from local schools

April 25, 2011
The Altoona Mirror

PITTSBURGH - In November, Pittshurgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison started a passion project years in the making - The James Harrison Family Foundation.

The entity is a nonprofit organization founded and inspired by the tremendous outpouring of support from his fans and his love of children. Harrison started the foundation in order to make a difference in people's lives when they need it the most. Harrison plans to harness all of his resources to grow the JHFF into an organization that truly helps children and families. In just a few months, the foundation has received amazing support from the community, helping to make the start of the JHFF something for Harrison to smile about.

Their first event was on Dec. 18 at Heinz Field in support of the Women's Shelter of Pittsburgh and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Following that, Smithfield Street Productions put on an Eve of the Eve party to bring in the New Year and raise money for the foundation via a live auction with Harrison himself as the auctioneer. The James Harrison Family Foundation has several events in the works for 2011. JHFF's mission is one of hope. Harrison wants to spread hope through the promotion of the message that he has learned by living: "Never give up. Don't give up on yourself, and don't give up on others.''
