Reese’s no-hitter fuels PC?victory

PATTON - Kate Reese struck out 18 batters on her way to a no-hitter as Penn Cambria shut out Cambria Heights, 4-0, in high school softball Thursday.

Brianna Toth hit a two-run home run to open the scoring for the Lady Panthers.

Abby Stanek had seven strikeouts for Cambria Heights.

Lady Colts win two

NORTHERN CAMBRIA - Once Northern Cambria's bats woke in the fifth inning of the first game of its doubleheader against Purchase Line, the flood gates opened in 13-6 and 16-3 routs.

In Game One, Bre Sabella - who also tossed six strikeouts to earn the win - broke a 6-6 tie in the sixth inning with a three-run home run. Giana Butterworth had three hits for the Lady Colts.

Sabella, Butterworth and Kelly Lieb each homered in the second game, which ended after five innings.

Lady Mounties win

LEWISTOWN - The Philipsburg-Osceola junior high softball team swept the 'A' doubleheader from Lewistown, getting a homer and two singles from Megan Bainey in a 21-1, five-inning Game 1 victory and a homer, triple and double from McKenzie Burge in a 15-0, three-inning Game 2 win.

Lewistown won both of the 'B' games, 6-4 and 8-2.

Altoona juniors split

BELLEFONTE - Margot Berry stole home for the winning run in Altoona's 10-9 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader the Lady Lions split with Bellefonte.

Berry also doubled and singled, and Altoona (1-3) received four RBIs, a triple, double and single from Marena Simington.

Altoona lost the first game, 5-2.

Tiger juniors win

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Kaylee Beaudoin tossed seven strikouts as Hollidaysburg knocked off Tyrone, 8-3.

7th grade: Hollidaysburg, 23-5, 4 innings.

Spring Cove coasts

STATE COLLEGE - Spring Cove defeated Park Forest, 12-0, in five innings behind Cassidy Barnes' two-hit pitching and Brooke Albright's two-run triple. Spring Cove is 2-0. Park Forest is 1-1. The 'B' game finished in a 9-9 tie.
