Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons promises to throw some heat during his ceremonial first pitch tonight at Blair County Ballpark, but there's a catch.
"I just can't tell you where it's gonna go," Timmons said with a laugh.
Timmons played football and ran track growing up and doesn't have much baseball experience. So he can laugh at himself about his pitching arm.
"Last year I went to James Farrior's camp, and I stunk up the place," Timmons said. "I was like the MVP of the other team. So I'm not that good."
Timmons does have an interesting basketball-related story in his background. His mother was a big fan of former Houston Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon, so much so that Lawrence's middle name is Olajuwon.
"I definitely like him too," Timmons said. "That's why I always say now that I'm something like 'The Dream' because my mom, she always laughs."
Timmons, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2007 draft out of Florida State, counts draft day and the Steelers winning Super Bowl XLIII over Arizona as his two favorite sports memories.
He gets a lot of opportunities to meet fans and sign autographs, which he will do for two hours tonight
"I go to a lot of events here, I do a couple signings around here, and I always meet with all the Steeler fans," Timmons said. "I always love meeting the Steeler fans. They show a lot of support. I feel like we have the No. 1 fan base in the world."
