Food Network to feature area eatery

BEDFORD - Bad Boyz Bistro will have its moment in the spotlight when its wings are featured in tonight's season premiere of the Food Network's "Outrageous Food" show.

"It's an honor. That's what I tell everyone," said Bryan Speck, who owns the 120 S. Juliana St. restaurant with his wife, Michelle.

The Specks opened the bistro a year ago.

"They shoot 39 restaurants a year, so I feel very honored to be one of the 39," Bryan Speck said.

He said the restaurant will be open when the show airs at 10 p.m., and it will be televised on the four flat-screen TVs located throughout the restaurant. He said patrons will be welcome to stay for the premiere party that kicks off at 9 p.m.

"We're open until 11, so we're opening up the party to customers and friends," he said.

The show, hosted by chef Tom Pizzica, will do an overview of the restaurant and focus on the wings served there, most notably the Hellraiser challenge wings. The challenge entails eating 10 of the wings without a drink or napkin.

Speck said he'll have sauce on hand so patrons can taste it, but he said he won't serve the wings without a waiver.

"You don't understand. This sauce is twice as strong as pepper spray. The most I ever ate in one sitting is three," he said, adding he came up with the recipe through trial and error.

The Food Network filmed at Bad Boyz for two days in January.

Speck encouraged anyone interested to come by the restaurant for the party.

"Come in and help us celebrate Bedford having its 15 minutes of fame," he said.
