VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Four area underclassmen placed in the NHSCA National Wrestling Championships Friday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and became All-Americans.
Central Cambria's Ben Rager (125) finished seventh in the junior division, and Chestnut Ridge's Tyler Dibert (160) took seventh in the sophomore group. Penn Cambria's Seth McLendon and Ridge's Austin Buttry placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in a 10-man freshman 285-pound weight class. Rager went 5-2, beating New York's Jacob Goddeau, 6-4, in the seventh-place finals. Dibert also went 5-2, earning an 8-6 win over New Jersey's Dan Wojtaszek for seventh.
McLendon went 3-2, beating Buttry, 3-1, in the consolations before beating Ohio's Domenic Mayle, 2-0, for fifth. Buttry went 1-2, beating New Jersey's Aldo Guisse, 6-2, for seventh.
Penn Cambria's Evan Link (112) opened the senior nationals Friday with a pin of Maryland's Matt Laux in 5:29. Teammate Tom Hanlon (152) lost his first bout to Kansas' Ryne Cokely, 10-7, but he's still alive in the consolations.
Huntingdon falls
HUNTINGDON - Casey Baird went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple for Huntingdon, but the Lady Bearcats lost to Bellefonte, 16-7, in high school softball.

Mustangs triumph
RESTON, Va. -- The Mid-State Mustangs Under-16AA hockey team, playing in the USA Hockey National tournament, beat the Reston Raiders, 8-3.
Stefan Horgas scored three goals and had two assists in the victory. Also, Bobby Polachek had two points in the game. Goalie Matt Gregory stopped 14 of 17 shots. The Mustangs, who took the No. 1 seed in the American Division, will play the Alaska Wolves in the National quarterfinal game today.
Spring Cove loses
Forest Hills defeated Spring Cove 24-26, 25-21, 15-8 in junior high school girls volleyball action Friday. No other details were reported.
Five Colts selected
The Heritage Conference announced the rosters for the 2011 Heritage Conference Basketball Showcase. The games are slated for April 16 at United High School.
Competing in the boys game from Northern Cambria are Tony Rocco, Andy Hancharik and Joel Polites. In the girls game, Northern Cambria will be represented by Emily Stiles and Kelly Sedlock.
