Eleven area wrestlers, including six from Penn Cambria, will be competing at the NHSCA National Wrestling Championship this week at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Mirror Wrestler of the Year and two-time state runner-up Evan Link will lead the Panther contingent into the tournament, which is broken up into senior, junior, sophomore and freshmen divisions.
Penn Cambria freshmen Henry Schlosser (171) and Seth McLendon (285), juniors Nick Szala (135) and Jon Stoy (135) and senior Tom Hanlon (152) will join Link in the tournament.
Central Cambria juniors Ben Rager (125) and Tony Risaliti (152), Chestnut Ridge sophomore Tyler Dibert (160) and freshman Austin Buttry (285) and Cambria Heights junior Ross Inzana (171) will also be competing.
The tourney begins at 2 p.m. today for the juniors and 3 p.m. for the freshmen and sophomores. Wrestling will be completed up to the round of 16 on the first day. The seniors begin at 9 a.m. Friday.
Medal bouts are set for Friday for the freshmen, sophomores and juniors. The freshman medal bouts are at noon, while the sophomores are at 2:30 p.m. and the juniors at 7.
The medal bouts for the juniors are set for 9 a.m. Sunday. The championship finals are scheduled for 5 p.m.
The top eight placers are accorded All-American status.
