Eight-run inning propels C-K over Pirates

CLAYSBURG - Claysburg-Kimmel erupted for eight runs in the second inning en route to a season-opening 9-3 win over Williamsburg in high school baseball Tuesday.

Trey Claar and Matt Repko had two hits apiece for C-K, while Adam Wheland had two hits for Williamsburg, including a home run.

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Hollidaysburg scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and then held on to defeat Williamsport in both team's season openers.

Trailing 1-0, winning pitcher Nathan Pope singled home one run in the sixth while teammate Corey Barr added a bases-loaded walk for an RBI, and Damian Lascoli drove in a run with a groundout.

Pope gave up six hits, struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.
