Scholarship applications due by March 21

Several scholarships are available through the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation.

The deadline to apply for all scholarships is Monday. Applications are available by calling the foundation at 944-6102. n The Blair County Civic Music Foundation Scholarship is $500 and will be awarded to someone pursuing study/training in the performing arts. The individual must have residence in Blair County. This scholarship was created in 2001 by the Blair County Civic Music Association so that the mission of the Blair County Civic Music Association will live on perpetually. n The Hancock Group Employee and Associates Foundation Scholarship will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Altoona Area High School, Blair County Christian School, Bellwood-Antis High School, Bishop Guilfoyle High School, Central High School, Chestnut Ridge High School, Great Commission Schools, Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School, Penn Cambria High School, Snake Spring Valley Christian School, Tyrone Area High School, Williamsburg Area High School or Blair County home schooled student pursuing post-secondary education in business, finance or a related field. The Hancock Group Employee and Associates Foundation was established in 2003. n The Bessie Q. Levine Scholarship is a $250 scholarship that will be provided to someone pursuing a degree in nursing. First preference will be given to applicants from the Tyrone area. Bessie Q. Levine's dream was to become a nurse. After receiving an academic scholarship from the Altoona Hospital in 1942, she enrolled in its school of nursing and received her degree in registered nursing in 1945. The scholarship was created to preserve her memory andhelp someone else pursue their dream.

n The Oakes Family Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County high school who will be attending a post-secondary educational institution in one of the following counties: Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield or Huntingdon, who is majoring in accounting and who has a financial need.

The scholarship was established in 2000 to honor J. Williams Oakes' 85th birthday.

n The Todd Gardner Sparks Performing Arts Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County high school who will be attending a four-year post-secondary educational institution who is majoring in performing arts/theater arts. Preference will be given to a student attending Penn State Altoona or Shenandoah University/Conservatory of Music. The scholarship was established in 2007.

n The Scott Douglas Sparks Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from a Blair County high school who will be attending a four-year post-secondary educational institution who is majoring in science, math, linguistics or international studies. The scholarship was established in 2008. n The Center for Adoption Education of Central Pennsylvania Foundation scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to a student whose life has been directly touched by adoption.

The recipient must be a graduating senior pursuing a post-secondary education from Altoona Area High School, Bishop Guilfoyle High School, Blair County Christian School, Bellwood-Antis High School, Central High School, Chestnut Ridge High School, Great Commission, Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School, Penn Cambria High School, Tyrone Area High School, Huntingdon Area High School, Juniata Valley High School, Williamsburg Area High School or home schooled. The scholarship was established in 2003. n The David D. Brozgal Memorial Scholarship is a $200 scholarship awarded to a student whose is pursuing training in a medical field at a post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher (most recent GPA in high school or college). The scholarship was established in 2005.
