Franklin Regional’s Megaludis wins 4th title

Franklin Regional 125-pounder and Penn State recruit Nico Megaludis captured his fourth Southwest Regional Class AAA Tournament title over the weekend.

Megaludis, a two-time state champion who is 166-1 in his career, beat Waynesburg's Zach McGinnis, 17-9, in the finals. He was taken down for the first time this season in the finals, but he was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.

Canon-McMillan won the team title with 167.5 points and five champions in Colt Shorts (103), Connor Schram (112), Solomon Chisko (130), Nick Catalano (145) and Cody Klempay (285). Schram is a returning state champion.

Reynolds wins Northwest

Reynolds won the team title of the Northwest Regional Class AA Tournament with four champions and a runner-up. The Raiders finished ahead of Fort LeBoeuf by 14 points, 131.5-117.5. Fort LeBoeuf had one champ and four runners-up.

Mason Beckman (125), Dylan D'Urso (130), Adam Matthews (135) and Austin Matthews (140) won titles. For Beckman, it was his fourth Northwest title. Beckman is in the same bracket at the PIAA Championships as Shady Side Academy's Southwest Regional four-time champ Geoff Alexander.

Bethlehem Catholic rules

Bethlehem Catholic, which beat Fort LeBoeuf for the PIAA Team Duals title, had five Southeast Regional Tournament champions, one runner-up and nine state qualifiers in winning the team crown.

One of the champs was returning state runner-up Randy Cruz (119).
