Ted L. Papadeas, 90, Altoona, died Thursday evening at his residence after an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Louis C. and Bessie (Kalamaras) Papadeas. He married Helen M. Mastos on June 23, 1946, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Altoona, and she died March 3, 2003.
Surviving are three children: Dean (Barbara) Papadeas, Cheryl Papadeas-Minnigh and Lee Papadeas, all of Altoona; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Helen Moore of Atlanta, Ga., Father George Papadeas of Daytona Beach, Fla., Nicholas Papadeas of Springfield, N.J., and Sophia Woodall of Palo Alto, Calif.; and a special friend, Niai Lamont of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Gus Papadeas; and two infant children: Jane and Epaminonda Papadeas.
Ted was a 1938 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Dickinson Law School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, where he flew B-17s and B-29s. He was a self-employed owner of and real estate appraiser for Penn Real Estate, Altoona, with 52 years of service. He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
At Ted's request, there was no public viewing. A funeral service was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Father John Hutnyan officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery.
