Today's winter storm and the anticipation of more ice and snow in the evening cancelled school and wiped out the entire scholastic sports schedule for today, including the District 6 dual-meet wrestling tournament and the Hollidaysburg at Altoona girls basketball game.
All four dual tournament meets for tonight -- Mount Union at Penn Cambria, Bellwood-Antis at Juniata and Cambria Heights at Claysburg-Kimmel in Class AA and State College at Bellefonte in Class AAA -- have been pushed back to Thursday. District 6 wrestling chairman Don Hosterman said that Wednesday night's Bald Eagle Area at Altoona (Class AAA) and West Branch at Huntingdon (Class AA) meets also will be wrestled on Thursday if the weather prevents them from being held as originally scheduled.
Because the Altoona wrestling is up in the air, the Hollidaysburg at Altoona girls basketball game is in limbo. It's original make-up date was Thursday, but the Mountain Lions' wrestling tournament home meet would take precedence.
The Altoona at State College boys basketball game originally slated for tonight, however, has been rescheduled for Thursday.
Some schools are already calling off Wednesday's events. Philipsburg-Osceola postponed its Wednesday boys basketball game at Central Mountain on Tuesday morning, setting it to be made up on Feb. 14. Shanksville-Stonycreek and Turkeyfoot Valley rescheduled their girls basketball game for Wednesday but already set Feb. 18 as a secondary make-up date in case school was cancelled again.
