The 20th anniversary of Grocers Fight Cancer Day will be held Thursday at the Giant Eagle stores in Altoona, Bedford, Ebensburg and Indiana.
A special one-time-only event will be held to celebrate the 20th anniversary: Every customer who spends more than $20 will receive an additional 20-cents bonus Fuelperks savings for their household.
At least 5 percent of the day's sales is donated to the American Cancer Society.
New special events this year include the Your Jewelry Box Beach Bash and take a chance to win a diamond, or donate to the J&P Auto Buck Truck and register to win free car washes.
Shoppers also can be a part of the Pot Pie Eating Challenge as the Altoona Giant Eagle defends its golden fork against two-time champions the Altoona Curve and other local celebrities, including Tommy Edwards, Rob Egan, Neil Rudel, Mike Irwin and UFC?fighter and area native Charlie Brenneman.
The event will include chef demonstrations, entertainment, music, celebrity baggers and special sale items. The event has raised more than $1 million between the communities the four stores cover during the last 19 years. Entertainment lineup
