Years involved with FFA: 4
Amount of time spent on FFA: During school I spend a lot of time on it. In the summer, we do our projects at the fair.
FFA projects: I have a dairy beef calf and market goats I take to the fair each year. I like raising the calves the best. It's such a big job to raise the calves. Showing off their accomplishments at the fair - that's my favorite part.
Favorite FFA memory: I like the community service-type activities that we do. We started a Drive-Your-Tractor-to-School Day where anyone in the school can drive a tractor to school on a certain day, and they have to pay to do it. We pick a charity to give the money to. I think that's probably my favorite. It's just neat to know we can help someone out at the same time.
FFA accomplishments: Right now I'm the president [of my chapter], so I think that's pretty big for me. I was secretary in 10th grade and vice president in 11th. I've always sort of had a leadership position for our FFA. I have my chapter degree this year in January. I'll get my Keystone Degree. That's as high as you can go for being my age. I'm also the Huntingdon County dairy princess this year.
How has FFA prepared you for your future aspirations: It definitely has helped my public speaking skills. I want to work in an ag business, but now I really enjoy working with people who come from an agriculture background. I probably would have been more behind the desk. I'd like to be an agricultural business accountant. I'd like to be able to work one-on-one with the customers.
Family connection: My dad was a member of FFA and both of my siblings are a part of it. It's sort of like a family thing for us. We all sort of have our own niches inside of us. FFA has a place for everyone.
Quote: FFA has just given me so many opportunities. It has made me so much more comfortable in front of people and coming out of my quiet shell throughout my high school years, and I think it does that for a lot of people. You can advance on to county, state and national events. It's definitely done a lot for me.
