Responders to learn about farm issues

MARTINSBURG - The Penn State Department of Agriculture will present an introductory course on farm emergencies for emergency responders from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19 at the Martinsburg Fire Company, 202 S. Market St.

The course will provide participants with an overview of local farm emergencies and will involve discussions and demonstrations of farm machinery, structures, chemicals and personnel.

This awareness presentation will teach emergency responders how to recognize and initially manage various hazards that they will encounter when arriving at the scene of an agricultural emergency.

The course is free of charge and includes breakfast, refreshments and lunch on both days.

The course is being funded through the South Central Mountains Task Force in cooperation with Blair County Emergency Management and local emergency planning committee.
