Woman killed in 3-vehicle accident

July 24, 2010

HUNTINGDON - A 66-year-old Shirleysburg woman died Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision on Route 522 in Cromwell Township, state police at Huntingdon said.

Dorothy Davis was driving a Ford Crown Victoria north on Route 522, near Locke's Valley Road, and crossed in the southbound lane while negotiating a right curve and sideswiped a Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Lee Ann Tustin, 38, of Shade Gap before colliding nearly head-on with a Ford Explorer, driven by Chris Hetrick, 54, of Hesston.

Hetrick's vehicle came to rest on its roof in a ditch along the road.

Davis, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by Huntingdon County Coroner David McGarvey.

Two girls, 5 and 6 years old, in Davis' car suffered severe injuries. A 4-year-old boy also was injured, state police report. All three were in child safety seats.

A passenger in Hetrick's Explorer also suffered a severe injury, while Hetrick was injured. Both were wear seat belts.

Neither Tustin nor a 2-year-old girl in her Mountaineer were injured. The child was in a safety seat, but Tustin was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

The Huntingdon County Emergency Management Agency and the Shade Gap and the Orbinsonia-Rockhill fire companies assisted on the scene.
