The Central Blair Recreation and Park Commission Men's Summer Basketball League has always been recognized for strict rules.
However, this year, an unprecedented event happened as teams were allowed to change rosters after the original roster deadline.
After numerous players complained to the league about not being on teams, an emergency meeting of the league board took place to vote on allowing teams to add more players. In a unanimous decision, the league board allowed teams with an open roster spot to add one more player with a deadline that was set on July 7.
Although some have enjoyed the flexibility the league showed, some have found the vote not to their liking.
For example, perennial Division I standouts Terrance Hollins and Keith Dinkins landed on teams in Division II and IV, respectively. With teams being placed in divisions based on talent, adding players after the deadline hasn't sat well with some.
Steve Sauers, superintendent of recreation, voiced his concern to the league board.
"Next year, whatever date is set for the deadline will be it," he said.
Sauers was against the ruling of allowing teams to add a player after the deadline, but with a league board as the governing body, he had no say in the matter.
American Solutions Group took the lead in Division I after defeating previously unbeaten Guy Landolfi CPA.
In a close battle, ASG squeezed out a tight 49-44 victory. The next night, ASG continued to show flashes of last year's dominance with an 82-65 victory over Despoy Law behind an impressive 27 points from Anthony Lytle.
Landolfi rebounded and defeated Petroski Psychological, 56-52, on Thursday. Guy Landolfi and ASG are tied at 6-1 for the top spot in Division I, with ASG holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Hotel Belmar was the lone undefeated Division II team going into this week.
However, a 33-25 loss to Natural Gains dropped the?Belmar to 6-1 before a huge matchup with 6-1 Co"BRH"s Green this week for the top spot in the Blue Section.
Andrews and Beard also saw its unbeaten streak come to an end this week in Division III with a 46-42 loss to the Iron Horse Bar and Grille.
Tom Dickey Law, of Division III's Green Section, is still undefeated after wins over Fiore True Value/Ward Trucking and A+ Printing.
Northern Cambria, ProCare, and Co"BRH"s White are tied atop Division IV, with one loss each. This division features the most winless teams with Keller Engineers, Guardian Roofing and Sheetz Bros. Coffee all searching for that elusive first victory.
With a win over Beating the Odds, Cardio Associates remained undefeated and at the top of Division V.
