A fifth-inning single by Keith Katowski plated Francis Gormish with what turned out to be the winning run as Juniata VFW downed Corporal Miller, 7-6, in the first round of the George B. Kelley Federation playoffs Sunday night at Vets Field.

Game 2 in the best-of-3 series is at Vets today at 5:30.

Josh Adams added a solo home run in the third for the winners, who trailed 4-1 after an inning. Gormish finished with three hits and an RBI for VFW, while Katowski added two hits.

Chris Carper had two RBIs for Corporal Miller, while Kyler Mearkle added two hits.

Scott Lytle drove in a pair of runs, and Matt Fredrick went the distance on the mound for a win to lift Dick's Pharmacy to a 1-0 series advantage over Cove Businesses in the George B. Kelley Federation playoffs at Vets Field.

With the game tied, 3-3, Fredrick and Cameron Kyle singled before an error brought home the winning run.

Logan Stern had three of Cove's six hits.

LILLY - In an exhibiton game that benefitted the library in Lilly, Lilly/Conrad Chiropractic took on a team from Zanesville, Ohio Sunday afternoon and handed the visitors a 12-7 setback.

Zanesville was in the area over the weekend playing in a tournament.

Lilly/Conrad, which led 9-0 after three innings, got four RBIs from Cliff Veverka and two hits and an RBI from Lucas McCoy. Teammate Brent Matish added two RBIs. Zanesville scored all seven of its runs in the sixth inning.
