CLAYSBURG - Claysburg exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday, getting a leg up on Westmont in the quarterfinal, best-of-three games Cambria Legion playoff series between the two teams.
Jordan Swope drove in three runs with a pair of homers, including a two-run blast in the big fifth inning, and Zach Morrow also chipped in a bases-loaded triple in the rally, as Claysburg won the series opener, 10-6, on its home field.
Game 2 will be played at 5:30 p.m. today at Westmont.
Claysburg, which won 15 of 16 games during the regular season, wrapped out 11 hits in Monday's victory, which came after a five-day layoff.
"We had been off five days, and we were a little rusty, but it seemed like we were able to pick things up in the fifth inning,'' Claysburg coach Dave Aungst said. "Zach Morrow had a big three-run triple and Jordan Swope just crushed the ball tonight.''
Swope, who hit a solo homer in the second inning, was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored for Claysburg, which also got a 3-for-3 outing from Trent Forshey.

SOMERSET - Tony Milanesi had an RBI and a double and Ian Olsavsky added an RBI, but Patton lost in six innings in the first game of a best-of-3 series in the Cambria Legion playoffs.
Somerset led, 8-0, after four innings but single runs by Patton in the fourth and fifth innings cut that lead to six before Somerset ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring four runs.
