The homeless man arrested for climbing over the center-field fence and entering Blair County Ballpark during Tuesday night's Curve game is in Blair County Prison after his arraignment early Wednesday.
Tyrone R. Squires, who has no permanent addresses locally or in Massachusetts, is charged with defiant trespass, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
"He was drunk and stupid and was a goof," Logan Township Police Chief Ron Heller said.
Squires was not a paying customer at the game, and the alcohol he consumed "didn't come from the ballpark," Heller said.
"Where it came from, I don't know," Heller added.
Squires was detained by ballpark security officials before police arrived.
"He actually described to us that he came over a fence and over another one and was not in the ballpark at all and was just looking to get in here because he was thirsty," Curve general manager Rob Egan said.
"He wanted something to drink, apparently, and he didn't have any drinks here. In fact, he admitted that he had been drinking vodka to us, and we don't serve vodka."
Township police were able to identify Squires through fingerprints and photographs from the Massachusetts State Police through a national fingerprint database - meaning he had a prior criminal record, Heller said. Details of Squires' record weren't available late Wednesday.
It wasn't known how long Squires has been in the area, Heller said.
"He has no local residence and no local ties," he said.
Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey P. Auker committed Squires to the county lockup in lieu of 10 percent of $4,500 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled May 27 before Magisterial District Judge Steven D. Jackson.
