Athlete of the week achievement: Carper set a school record in the javelin with a throw of 211 feet, 10 inches in a victory over State College. It was the best throw in the state this year and the third best nationally. He also won the 300 hurdles and was second in the triple jump and 110 hurdles. He won the javelin and the 1600 relay in helping Altoona win the Shippensburg Invitational.
Season update: His top times and distances are: 211-10 in the javelin, 15.04 seconds in the 110 hurdles, 39.1 in the 300 hurdles and 44-6 in the triple jump.

His best event is the javelin, but he can do just about everything. He'd like to be a decathlete in college, and it wouldn't surprise me if he would be a successful one.''
