April 13, 2010
The Altoona Mirror

GALLITZIN - The Carmelite Community of the Word is coordinating an effort to send needed supplies to people affected by the January earthquake in Haiti. Supplies are scarce and prices are inflated in Haiti. Containers will be shipped to Haiti in early May, and help is needed to make this possible.

Supplies needed include sheets, pillow cases, towels, lightweight blankets (cotton, fleece), cots and folding beds, outdoor-type chairs/seating, new or gently used clothing, shoes, hygiene products, coffee, canned vegetables, fruit, meat, soups, stews and beans (no dried food, bagged or boxes can be shipped), pots and pans, flatware, plates, cups and drinkware (preferably plastic), building materials such as roofing (corrugated panels), lumber, cement, latex paint, nails, screws, electrical supplies, tools for construction and tarps.

Items are needed by April 26. The container will be loaded at the CCW Incarnation Center, 394 Bem Road.

Bring your supplies or send monetary donations to Carmelite Community of the Word, Inc., 394 Bem Road, Gallitzin, PA 16641. Please memo your check: "Haiti Earthquake Relief.''
