Postcard from Florida

April 3, 2010
By Cory Giger, cgiger@altoonamirror.com

It rained Monday here in Bradenton, but since then there has not been one cloud in the sky during the day. Not one. I find it pretty amazing from a weather standpoint that four days can go by without a single cloud appearance. (Yes, I'm easily intrigued.)

Since I was curious how this could be, I called up the fantastic chief meteorologist for WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Joe Murgo. He explained that the lack of clouds was due to a big area of high pressure over the region, leading to little moisture in the air and little humidity. Joe is a great guy and was very kind to take a few minutes to explain that to a complete weather dolt like me.

The great thing about Florida during spring training is all the sun. But the bad thing is it's virtually impossible to find shelter from the sun while watching games, which is why I always come back home looking like a lobster.

I hear the weather in Altoona has been tremendous lately. Let's just hope that's the case in a week when the Curve debut at Blair County Ballpark.
