SAMA opens Cuba exhibit
The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona is pleased to announce the opening of its latest exhibition, "Forbidden: Forever Cuba." The exhibition, which opens April 9, features 75 photographs by Mansa Mussa, Jay Seldin and Herman Velez. The exhibition will remain on view through August 14.
"Forbidden: Forever Cuba" features 25 photographs from each photographer chronicling their trip to Cuba and capturing the many personalities of the Caribbean nation.
The museum will celebrate the exhibition at a Blue Monday program scheduled for May 10. The event will include a light supper and libations and Americana, blues and folk music by Perry Sheesley, accompanied by Dave Fornwalt. Cost for the program is $20 per person. The museum also will host a Lunch a l'Art program with Jerry Zolten, professor of American studies at Penn State Altoona, on June 17. The cost for the program, which begins at noon, is $13 or $12 for members. Call 946-4464 for reservations or more information.
Math prof holds recital
HUNTINGDON - Juniata College professor of mathematics John Bukowski will perform at a piano recital on campus at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts.
The recital is free and open to the public.
Bukowski is an accomplished musician who, in addition to his teaching and administrative duties, provides musical accompaniment at the college's commencement ceremony and often plays piano for Juniata's Concert Choir, Choral Union and other musical groups.
Award-winning play to visit
PITTSBURGH - The 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play "August: Osage County" will come to the Benedum Center for a series of shows April 6 through 11.
The play stars Academy Award-winner Estelle Parsons in the role of the family matriarch, Violet.
"August: Osage County" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April, 6, 7 and 8, 8 p.m. April 9 and 10, 2 p.m. April 10 and 1 and 7 p.m. April 11.

PA Consort hosts concert
BEDFORD - The Shippensburg University Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers will present a concert of sacred and secular music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bedford United Methodist Church, 132 E. John St., as part of the PA Consort's Guest Artist Series.
Tickets are $8 at the door and $7 in advance, with student tickets half price. Tickets are available at the Visitors Bureau, Fisher's Pharmacy and Moe'z Art Music in Bedford and at the Everett Rexall Pharmacy.

Juniata choir returns home
HUNTINGDON - The Juniata College Concert Choir will perform a program of traditional and international choral works to honor their return from a spring-break tour of Brazil at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, in Rosenberger Auditorium in the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts on the Juniata campus.
The concert is free and open to the public.
There will be a post-concert reception at Standing Stone Coffee Company, 1231 Mifflin St.
