Police say two city men break into exes’ homes

December 1, 2009
From Mirror staff reports

Two Altoona men are in jail, awaiting preliminary hearings for criminal trespass, stalking, harassment and other charges after allegedly breaking into their exes' homes over the weekend in separate cases.

Lawrence Lazelle Williams, 38, of 104 Third St. allegedly used a key to get into his ex-wife's home at 3:21 a.m. Sunday on 16th Avenue and went into her bedroom, court documents state. Police said Williams, who had pulled a pair of pantyhose over his head, didn't move or speak but stood by the bed, where his ex-wife and another man were sleeping.

When the couple woke up, Williams' ex-wife allegedly told Williams she was calling the police before he fled downstairs and out of the house.

Motion detectors outside the home had been dismantled, police said. Both witnesses described Williams as the man who was in the bedroom.

Police said Williams called them a few minutes later. When police arrived at his home, his girlfriend told them she didn't know where Williams had been after 11 p.m. Saturday. Police said the hood of her car was hot, although she told them it hadn't been driven for hours.

Zachary Benjamin Dobbins, 22, of 2525 Broad Ave., Apt. 2, Altoona, allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's house early Saturday on South 16th Street after repeatedly calling her phone and pounding on the front door.

Dobbins called the woman 37 times in the hour preceding the 3:30 a.m. break-in, where he allegedly forced open the garage door after trying to get in the home's front door, police said.

Dobbins then hid in a bathroom above the garage and called the woman, court documents state. He allegedly told her he was in her garage and would slash her car's tires if she didn't come down to talk to him.

The ex-girlfriend told police she could hear Dobbins talking on the phone through a vent that led to the garage. She told police she pleaded for Dobbins to leave before he took off.

Williams was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, stalking and harassment. He was lodged in Blair County Prison in lieu of $30,000 cash bail.

Dobbins was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, stalking, loitering and prowling at night and harassment. He was remanded to Blair County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of a $15,000 bond.

Preliminary hearings for both men are set for Wednesday.
