Guilfoyle will host all-star volleyball match
Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School will host the third annual Cherrie Snyder Memorial All-Star volleyball match on Saturday. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
A team consisting of Blair County All-Stars will be matched against a team of Regional all-stars. Bob Kasun of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and Ken Streilein of Hollidaysburg Area High School will coach the Blair County All-Stars. The Regional All-Stars will be led by Chad Weight of Bellefonte and Larry Campbell of Bald Eagle Area.
The Keystone Chapter of Volleyball Officials, based out of the Altoona Area, is responsible for organizing the all-star match. Athletes are chosen from schools that request the Keystone Chapter of Volleyball Officials to assign their regular-season matches. The match is held annually in memory of Cherrie Snyder a longtime volleyball official who succumbed to leukemia in 2007.
"This all-star match means a lot to volleyball community. It is a nice tribute to our friend Cherrie Snyder, who meant so much to us as a coach, an official and a goodwill ambassador to the sport," said Chuck Gojmerac, Spring Cove School District Athletic Director and all-star match organizer.
Admission to the match is $4 for adults and $2 for students. All net proceeds are donated to a local charity in Snyder's memory.
