QB woes: Steelers lose Batch for six weeks

POSTED: November 23, 2009

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers backup quarterback Charlie Batch injured his left wrist after replacing Ben Roethlisberger during an overtime loss in Kansas City and could miss the rest of the regular season.

Batch was hurt despite playing only four plays in the Steelers' 27-24 loss -- his first game action since 2007. He is expected to undergo surgery later this week to repair the wrist and miss approximately six weeks. Batch sat out last season with a broken collarbone.

Roethlisberger left with concussion-like symptoms when his head struck Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson's knee while he was being dropped for a 1-yard loss in overtime. Roethlisberger was examined Monday and his status for Sunday night's game in Baltimore is uncertain.

Dennis Dixon is the Steelers' No. 3 quarterback, but hasn't played this season and has appeared in only one NFL game.

I love the Steelers but my fellow fans, not so much.

I think we have a better chance making it to the playoffs with Dixon than Ben.....

Charlie Batch is a realy good quarterback, but I am very surprised that the Steelers have let him hang around this long given his tendency to be very injury prone. Word has it that Ben Roethlisberger may play on Sunday, but what if he sustains another injury? With 3rd string backup QB Dennis Dixon at the helm, you may as well forget about any chance of making the playoffs this year.

Signing Jeff Garcia might not be a bad option right now.
