Browning art on display
JOHNSTOWN - The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Johnstown will celebrate the career of internationally acclaimed artist Colleen Browning this winter with the exhibition, "Colleen Browning: Realist - Illusionist." On view Dec. 11 through March 19, the exhibition features more than 30 oil paintings by Browning culled from the museum's permanent collection. With nearly 100 works in its collection, SAMA is the world's foremost repository of Browning's work.
SAMA-Johnstown is located in the Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. It is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A cappella act performing
UNIVERSITY PARK - The female a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey In The Rock will perform a program honoring the array of holiday celebrations that mark the end of the year in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in Penn State's Eisenhower Auditorium.
Tickets for the Center for the Performing Arts presentation are $37 for adults, $22 for University Park students and $26 for people age 18 and under. Exhibit shows Levine gifts
LORETTO - The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto will present the exhibit "Twentieth Century Prints: Gifts of Allwyn and Ellen Levine" from Dec. 4 to June 5 in the museum's upstairs Margery Wolf-Kuhn Gallery.
The exhibition features 55 prints by important 20th Century printmakers such as Jim Dine, Larry Rivers, Philip Pearlstein, Red Grooms, Alex Katz, Nancy Graves and Will Barnet. The majority of works in the exhibition consists of large prints, both in black and white and vibrant colors. The prints were donated in 2000 and 2004 by Allwyn and Ellen Levine.
SAMA-Loretto is located on the campus of St. Francis University and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 472-3920 or visit www.sama-art.org.
Classic story hits the stage
MCCONNELLSTOWN - Today through Dec. 5, The Playhouse at McConnellstown will present "It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play," adapted from the famous movie.
The show will be performed at 8 p.m. today and Saturday, Nov. 27 and 28 and Dec. 4 and 5 and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Nov. 29.

SAMA exhibit honors Peary
LORETTO - The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Loretto will present the exhibit "Robert E. Peary: Accomplished Arctic Explorer" from Dec. 4 through March 6 in the museum's rear Zamias Gallery.
The exhibition includes 13 prints generated from black and white photographs and hand-tinted glass lantern slides gifted to the Cresson Area Historical Society by The Peary-Macmillan Arctic Museum in Brunswick, Maine.
