Thomas J. "Tom" Plunkett, 63, of Duncansville went home to be with the Lord Saturday afternoon, Nov. 14, 2009, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer at Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Baltimore, Md.

He was born in Chest Springs, Pa., son of the late William and Marie (Cretin) Plunkett. He married Cheryl L. Heim on March 31, 1973, in Altoona.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl; son, Christopher M. Plunkett and his wife, Lisa A.; son, Erik T. Plunkett; grandson, Tyler M. Plunkett, all of Duncansville; sister, Coletta Scali of Cortland, Ohio; brother, George Plunkett of Blairsville; sister, Lillian Gilbert of Mentor, Ohio; and sister, Esther Zabinski of Tipton.

Tom was preceded in death by sisters: Ann Bowmaster and Helen Adams; brother, Leonard Plunkett; and sister, Florence Plunkett.

Mr. Plunkett was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Altoona.

He was a graduate of Cambria Heights High School.

Tom was a tractor-trailer driver for Imler's Poultry with 21 years' service.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam. Following that, he spent 16 years with the U.S. Army Reserve, serving with the 341st Medical Group.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, reading, sports and going on cruises.

Tom's family was his pride and joy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, and 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Faith Baptist Church, 315 40th St., Altoona.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Gary G. Dull officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
