Couple face 281 counts of fraud

State police: Business owners cheated customers out of warranties

From Mirror staff reports
POSTED: November 6, 2009

CLAYSBURG - A Claysburg couple is facing a combined 281 charges after state police at Hollidaysburg contend they defrauded customers and the state through their Greenfield Township business.

Charles Elwood Weyandt, 57, and Constance Sue Weyandt, 44, both of 1086 Queen Road, were charged Wednesday on a slew of counts related to their business, Claysburg Truck Auto Imports.

State police said the pair failed to deliver on warranties to 20 customers who bought vehicles and failed to forward the appropriate funds to the warranty company.

Police also allege taxes and fees from 35 vehicle sales - totaling $14,062 - were never paid to PennDOT. The pair also is accused of failing to pay $28,552.80 to have four titles of vehicles they sold released. Investigators also said title work from two deals were altered before being sent to PennDOT.

Both are charged with four felony counts of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds along with 110 misdemeanor counts of criminal conspiracy, including conspiracy to commit theft by failure to make required disposition of funds, conspiracy to commit theft by deception, conspiracy to commit deceptive or fraudulent business practices, conspiracy to commit misapplication of entrusted property and property of government or financial institutions and conspiracy to commit theft by failure to make required disposition of funds received.

Constance Weyandt is also charged with two counts of tampering with public records, two counts of false swearing and 49 summary counts related to the titles of vehicles.

The Weyandts were sent summonses to appear Dec. 3 for arraignment and a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Craig Ormsby.

I bought a vehicle, not from the Weyandts, but from a dealership that is no longer there,in Claysburg. He sold it to me with no warranty, but after 2 (TWO) weeks the engine blew up. He would not help me fix it, so I had asked the State police about the Lemon Law. I just wanted to know about it,I DID NOT cause the man any trouble. Well, the S.P. went to his bussiness, to check all of his records. That of cours upset him so he got me a used engine from a place in Claysburg, (maybe the Weyandts) The thing looked like it was stuck in mud. My machanic said whoever this guy got it from rip me off. I do not know if it was them or not, but it just felt good to get this off my chest. So on that note let them get what they deserve. Fraud is fraud, an the law is the law.

only 281 counts of fraud? In Congress, that's known as a "clean record".

Until they want the 'bail out' plan. Don't see that happening here.

I don't think anyone truly cares. People are simply posting their opinions of the situation, which everyone is entitled to.

Hey Let's be honest, Auto Dealerships rip people off all the time. Just because this couple doesn't have some elaborate parking lots for there cars...And before we start being critics of what everyone writes,, Ask yourselves one question, "DO YOU REALLY GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THIS WHOLE STORY? Unless they got you or your money than let's move on.

According to this article, the police have evidence that these two ripped off several people. That is in no way "innocent."

Jhana, what happened in Ft. Hood is a DEVASTATING TRAGEDY! No, I do NOT think the guy should get a get out of jail free card, but I do see your point. My heart n prayers are with the victims & their families. The couple in question/topic here did not kill anybody.

Naturelover- Eat any of those mushrooms growing under cow patties lately?

I am joining the military asap so I can embezzle billions! The guy that blew away all those soldiers at Fort Hood yesterday was 'current military'- Is he innocent until proven guilty, you think the families of the victims are giving him a get out of jail free card for currently serving in the military???

-I'm pretty sure that with the right lawyer and the proper handling of the trial the charges could be reduced to like 165 counts!! LOL. And FYI 45K in Claysburg is almost the same as say 50K.

Ann, the police have charged the couple, they have not found them guilty.

lycoming, epoch1,- my statements were not to "play the military card",& yes,I also agree there are many veterans in prison! I was referring to freedom of speech, which I am grateful we all have. The statements made- "Bottom line -- stay away from a business owned by a Weyandt!", & " 'Bulls Crickers' at the finest", "*the bug eye express*", insinuates all WEYANDTS & Bullscreekers, are not worthy ppl is what i meant. How do we know if these ppl are even associated with "BUG-EYE", because their last name is WEYANDT? It is apparent that this couple is already found guilty, without a trial. - let the couple go thru the justice system b4 they are judged.

No...the comments here didn't find them guilty. THE POLICE DID.
