PIAA tennis set for Friday

HERSHEY - District singles tennis champions Allison Kristofco and Maddie Bittner, along with three area doubles teams, will open play in the PIAA Championships Friday morning at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Kristofco, the two-time District 6 Class AA champion from Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, meets District 12 champ Katie Gillespie of Lansdale Catholic in the first round at 9 a.m.

Bitter, the three-time District 5-AA champ from Bedford, faces District 9 champ Kylie Auman of Elk County Catholic in the first round at 9 a.m.

The quarterfinals in AA singles are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday with the Kristofco-Gillespie winner facing the winner of Lower Moreland's Madison Cohen and Quaker Valley's Spencer Caravaggio, and the Bittner-Auman winner playing the winner of Tanya Timko of Charties Houston and Audrey Ann Blakely of Wyomissing.

The semifinals are at 9 a.m. Saturday with the finals to follow at 1 p.m.

Natalie Khalouf and Megan Bettwy of Hollidaysburg, the District 6-AAA doubles champions, will square off against Jamie Kiem and Maggie Ervin, the District 10 champions from McDowell, in the first round at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the quarterfinals scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, the semifinals at 11 a.m. Saturday and the finals at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Ashley Klobuka and Danielle Nazaruk of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, the District 6-AA doubles champs, will meet District 12 champions Emily Degnan and Joanna D'Orazio of Archbishop Carroll at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Bedford's Julia Light and Ashley Weyant, the District 5-AA doubles champs, will face Ashley Vincent and Kerri Burkett of Brockway Area, also at 10:30 a.m.

The AA doubles quarterfinals are at 3 p.m. Friday with the semifinals at 9 a.m. Saturday and the finals at 1 p.m. Saturday.
