Local woman gets bowling coach job
Penn State Altoona has added varsity women's bowling to its athletics program, and a local woman has been tabbed to guide the program.
Lori Tremmel, a native of Duncansville, was named the head coach of its new women's bowling program. Tremmel has been a director for the Altoona Women's Bowling Association for eight years and was a 2006 inductee into the Pennsylvania State Bowling Hall of Fame.
Tremmel has been a coac for 15 years in junior programs in the Altoona area.
An advocate of women's bowling, Tremmel launched the first annual Altoona Women's Bowling Hall of Fame Banquet in 2001.
She bowled as a professional in regional tournaments for eight years, and is a member of local, state and national 600 & 700 clubs.
"I am thrilled to provide our female students with a new opportunity for athletic participation," said Penn State Altoona Athletics Director Fredina Ingold. "The sport of bowling adds a different dimension to our program."
The team's 2009-2010 schedule features eight competitions.
The Lady Lions played in their first event of the season this past weekend at the 2009 Kutztown Fall Baker Invitational in Reading, finishing sixth out of eight teams.
The squad picked up its first wins in program history against Lincoln University and Cheyney University to finish the day with a 2-3 record in five matches.
