‘Unstoppable’ movie filming in Tyrone becomes delayable

By Greg Bock, gbock@altoonamirror.com
POSTED: October 20, 2009

TYRONE - Filming for the movie "Unstoppable" has been pushed back a week.

"The weather last week bumped it back to the first week in November," said Tyrone Mayor Jim Kilmartin, who said he spoke with members of the film's production company Monday.

Gabriela Gutentag, publicist for the 20th Century Fox production starring Denzel Washington, said specifics on the shooting dates were still being worked out, but Kilmartin and borough officials indicated Nov. 2, 3 and 4 were the latest days when crews will be in town.

The Tyrone filming was originally scheduled for the last week of October.

Film crews for "Unstoppable," a movie about a runaway train laden with chemicals bearing down on a city, have been filming in Pennsylvania since September and currently are using the Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad's rails near Milesburg.

They'll bring the show to Tyrone, making use of two areas in the borough, Kilmartin said.

The latest schedule has filming taking place Nov. 3 and will close down Lincoln Avenue between 21st and 23rd streets. Filming on Nov. 4 will shut down Washington Avenue between 14th and 10th streets, as well as cross streets, Borough Emergency Management Director J.R. Watson said.

"They will detour traffic along Lincoln Avenue," he said.

Mirror Staff Writer Greg Bock is at 946-7458.

Tyrone will be greatly improved in appearance if the train actually explodes and shower the entire town in chemicals. It would be the best public works program ever in that part of Blair Co.
