James P. Campbell

March 18, 1970 - Sept. 29, 2009

James P. Campbell, 39, Riggles Gap Road, Altoona, died Tuesday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus, after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of John and Tina (Cusick) Campbell. He married the former Lori Finch Oct. 18, 2003, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife; his mother of Coalport; two daughters: Brielle and Briley at home; a sister, Lori Davis (Chris) of Irvona; a brother, John (Karen DiTosti) of Altoona; his parents-in-law, George and Ruth (Fegan) Finch of Altoona; a brother-in-law, George and Michelle (Miller) Finch of York; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father Aug. 23, 1982; and a sister, Kathleen.

James was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in civil engineering. He worked as a licensed professional engineer (PE) for PennDOT District 9 for 12 years.

He was a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers, Knights of Columbus St. Basil Council, Coalport, and the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. He was a former member of St. Basil Catholic Church, Coalport, where he was an altar server.

Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, real estate, golf, hunting and fishing.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, where a vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. today. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at St. Basil Catholic Church, Coalport, the Rev. Zab Amar as celebrant. Committal in Beaver Valley Cemetery, Flinton.
