TYRONE - A steady stream of folks passed through the doors of the American Legion Sunday hoping to land one of several hundred roles for extras in the film "Unstoppable."
"I think it's only going to happen once in a lifetime," said Ashley James, 24, who along with friend Lindsey Bailey, 24, went through the brief process of filling out a questionnaire and submitting a photo of themselves.
While neither one will quit their day job if they get picked, the Tyrone residents said having the chance to be a part of 20th Century Fox's filming of the runaway train movie in town next month was worth shuffling their schedules.
"My boss told me he'd let me out," Bailey said.
Tyrone Borough Coucilman Bill Latchford stopped by but said he wasn't looking for a part - just checking out the crowd and taking in the scene.
"Any community can use a little bit of a profile boost," Latchford said, adding that he was disappointed Tyrone never completed its hotel project to fully take advantage of the influx of people - including possibly the movie's star, Denzel Washington - for the filming. Cameras are expected to roll for several days in October.
Still, Latchford said filming scenes for the movie about a train laden with toxic chemicals bearing down on a town will have a positive impact on Tyrone.
"This is going to be so exciting for the community," Latchford said. "Denzel Washington is one of the biggest A-list actors, and even if he doesn't come to Tyrone, Tyrone was a part of making of one of his movies."
Huntingdon resident Victoria Bloom, 18, said becoming an actress is her dream. So she and her dad, John Bloom, drove up so she could get a taste of the movie business.
