Trojans hit milestone
By Anthony Rolish, For the MirrorJOHNSTOWN - Murphy's Law was in full effect for Cambria Heights in Friday night's 53-0 loss at Johnstown's Trojan Stadium as everything that could go wrong for the Highlanders did go wrong.
Cambria Heights (0-2) turned the ball over six times in the first half, as the Trojans (1-1) converted all of those miscues into scores.
The Highlanders also generated just 33 yards of total offense, while Johnstown finished with 302 total yards.
"You're not going to have any chance to win a game turning the ball over like that," Cambria Heights coach Justin Myers said. "We had some success throwing the ball in our scrimmages and in the first game, but that didn't happen tonight."
Johnstown intercepted three Highlander passes, with two of them returned for touchdowns.
Three Cambria Heights fumbles also set up the Johnstown offense in great field position for short drives.
"Everything fell into place for us," Johnstown coach Kevin Marabito said. "Our offense clicked, the defense forced turnovers, and everything went our way."
Johnstown also reached a significant milestone in school history, as the win was the 600th in the program's existence dating back to 1898.
"This win was a tribute to everyone who ever played or coached here," Marabito said.
Johnstown quarterback John Siciliano got the Trojans on the board with the first of his three touchdown runs on the game's opening possession.
Siciliano's 45-yard score was followed on the next series by a 5-yard touchdown from Kashmir Pretlor that was set up by a Heights fumble.
Siciliano fired a 22-yard touchdown pass to Richard Agurs after the Trojans recovered another Highlander fumble, and on the following possession LaQuinn Stephens-Howling returned an interception 40 yards to give Johnstown an overwhelming 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Siciliano scored from 21 yards out early in the second quarter, and after Daveon Simms recovered the third Highlander fumble of the first half, Siciliano darted into the end zone on a 9-yard touchdown run to put Johnstown ahead 41-0 at the 11:13 mark.
Johnstown added two more scores before the break. A 2-yard touchdown run by Gerald Jones was followed less than two minutes later by a 43-yard interception return by Agurs that set the eventual final score.
