Respect Eagles fans

August 30, 2009
The Altoona Mirror

I find it in very poor taste that the recent Mirror poll question about Michael Vick has an answer that states "I hate the Eagles anyway."

This comes from an area proclaimed as Steeler Country.

Well, what makes it Steeler Country? We are maybe at most an hour closer to Pittsburgh than Philadelphia. Last time I checked, Philadelphia is in Pennsylvania.

You know Eagles fans whether they are cheering or booing they are always a fan all year long. With the exception of a few, because I know there are some loyal fans in this town, Steeler fans are bandwagon followers.

When they win, they're loved. When they lose, you can't find anyone around.

Oh yeah, I have heard them all about why Pittsburgh, and I've got an answer for all of them. No, I'm not expecting everyone to jump to the Eagles, but it would be nice to be acknowledged, which doesn't happen ever.

I did not like at all that it said "hate" in the poll. That is very unprofessional. You could have put "I do not cheer for the Eagles," and "it does not matter to me," but to put "I hate the Eagles" was uncalled for.

That is the main reason why I have no respect for the Steelers because they have none for the Eagles, who are in the state of Pennsylvania.

Poor choice of words

I am so angered at your use of the word "hate" found in your Top Headline Poll and, yes, I am an Eagles fan.

Your poll had to do with Vick and not if your readers like or dislike the Eagles.

Maybe your poll question should have read, "I am not an Eagles fan."

Hate is such a harsh word. Does it reflect on the mentality of the Steelers fans? Ouch! I just can't believe you put this as a choice for a poll.

As a state we are lucky enough to have two outstanding football teams, and shouldn't we be supportive of both teams? As fans we don't have to like other teams but "hate?" This is a poor choice of words, and you should consider in the future choosing more professional statements in your polls.

In my eyes, that statement makes "yunz" a newspaper for hillbillies.

Sky pointing annoying

When the Philadelphia kicker missed the field goal with time expiring, which would have given the Eagles the win over New England in an exhibition game this preseason, he looked up to heaven with disgust.

Does this mean he was angry with God?

This is when the officials should have thrown the flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. Who can put a stop to this pointing to the sky other than these men in zebra suits for these players who think they are someone special, and God will help them?

Eager for football

It's that time of year when summer is about over and soon the students will be heading back to school, and the leagues will be changing and football season in Happy Valley will start.

If you get on I-99 through Bedford County, you will see a beautiful little valley called Paradise Valley, and then if you drive two hours from Bedford north, you will run into another little valley called Happy Valley.

Now in Happy Valley, there is a little king with coke-rim glasses, and his son, the prince, that rule Happy Valley. If you are lucky enough, you might get to see this little king on the football field one last time before he gives the throne to his prince.

Down in the swamp, the next coach to break the little king's records will be No. 1 again, thanks to the No. 1 player in the country.

Go Lions and Gators.
