11:55 a.m.: Three die in Bedford County crash

POSTED: August 18, 2009

SCHELLSBURG - Grief counselors are at Chestnut Ridge High School after three teenagers were killed Monday night in a two-vehicle crash, state police at Bedford said today.

The crash killed Roger James McGarry III, 18, of Bedford, and two other people, whose names weren't released by state police.

McGarry was a passenger in a car driven by a 17-year-old Bedford boy, police said. The driver pulled from Point Road into the path of a vehicle driven by Tracey A. Winegardner of Schellsburg, police said. Winegardner was driving on Valley Road in Napier Township at the time of the 7:51 p.m. crash.

The teenage driver and a second passenger, a girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. McGarry was flown by medical helicopter to Altoona Regional Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, police said.
