LEADING OFF: 3B Pedro Alvarez is heating up and extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 2-for-3 effort Thursday. He's batting .346 (9-for-26) during the streak.

SAFE AT FIRST: "I don't think he's trying to do as much," Curve manager Matt Walbeck said of Alvarez. "He's really staying within himself. He and [hitting coach Ryan Long] have been working a lot together on just trying to maintain some tempo and basically just not swing so hard."

STEALING SECOND: Alvarez will play tonight in Bowie, then leave the Curve on Saturday morning to play in the MLB All-Star Futures Game on Sunday in St. Louis. He will return to the Curve on Monday.

ROUNDING THIRD: Former Curve RHP Brad Lincoln also will play in the Futures Game.

HEADING HOME: Bowie's pitching probables for the upcoming series were not available Thursday. The Curve will go with RHP Mike Crotta (4-4, 4.98) tonight, LHP Daniel Moskos (5-7, 4.04) Saturday, RHP Tyler Herron (0-2, 4.30) Sunday and LHP Kyle Bloom (2-4, 3.35) Monday.
