POSTED: July 7, 2009

Four businesses will comprise the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame Class of 2009.

Bishop Guilfoyle High School, Electric Motor Supply Inc., and Hollidaysburg Area School District will be inducted during the annual Business Hall of Fame Dinner Oct. 19 at the Blair County Convention Center.

Frozen Farm Products will be inducted in the Heritage category.

Hall of Fame recipients must have a his-tory of at least 25 years and a lasting effect on commerce generated in Blair County. The Heritage category recognizes businesses no longer in operation.

"We are very honored. We feel it is an honor to be included with the elite past and present companies that are on the list," said Patrick Illig, president and general manager of Electric Motor Supply. "This is a great recognition for our employees for their dedication and hard work and for sticking with us through the good times and the hard times."

Hollidaysburg Area School District Superintendent Paul Gallagher said it is a great honor to be inducted into the hall.

"The Hollidaysburg Area School District is an integral part of the community and we are very proud to be recognized as such. The district has many hardworking teachers, students, board members, administrators, staff members and community partners who can be very proud of all their accomplishments that led to this prestigious award," Gallagher said.

Doug Wolf, chairman of the board of trustees of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, said the election to the hall was unexpected.

"As an educational institution you don't think about that as a Chamber award winner," Wolf said. "The school has been here for nearly 90 years and we have had graduates take significant roles in the Blair County businesses. We are flattered and are quite proud to be selected."

Other recognitions include:

n Excellence in Small Business: Allegheny Ridge Corp. and Irwin Financial.

n Young Emerging Business: Diamond Bridal Collections & Special Occasions and LTD Academy.

n Community Service: Best Buy Altoona store, Reliance Bank and WTAJ-TV.

n Safety Excellence: S.P. McCarl & Co.

n Technology Award: Reclamere Inc.

n Committee Choice: Discovery Garden.
