'Belle' explores Dickinson

STATE COLLEGE - "The Belle of Amherst," a Tony Award-winning play by William Luce, will be presented by The Next Stage at 8 p.m. July 17-18 and July 24-25 and at 2 p.m. July 18-19 and July 25-16.

"The Belle of Amherst" is a one-woman play (starring Next Stage actress Julia Albertson) which explores the hidden life of eccentric author Emily Dickinson.

Tickets are $14 for the general public and $12 for students and seniors.

ABBA tribute plays Sept. 9

PITTSBURGH - "ABBA, The Music!" will be presented by the ABBA tribute band Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Benedum Center.

Tickets range from $34.50 to $39.50 and may be purchased at the Box Office at Theater Square, online at pgharts.org or by calling 412-456-6666.

Earle concert promotes CD

STATE COLLEGE - The State Theatre will present the show "Steve Earle: Solo and Acoustic" at 8 p.m. July 15.

Earle is touring behind a tribute album to his friend and mentor Townes Van Zandt, the cult favorite musician who died in 1997.

Roberdeau sets events

Fort Roberdeau's Fourth of July celebrations will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Revolutionary War-era fort.

Throughout the day, costumed staff will demonstrate some of the chores of 18th-century frontier life. The buildings and exhibits of the park will be open for self-guided tours throughout the afternoon.

Admission to the fort will be free for the holiday.

Next week marks the fort's annual Revolutionary War Days event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 11 and 12. Costumed re-enactors will depict an attack by British Loyalists each day at 3 p.m.

On both days, special programs and tours will be available. There will also be a fashion show, craftspeople and special activities for kids.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 4-11.
