DelBaggio, Gillam win Down River crown

EVERETT - Terry DelBaggio and Jimmy Gillam of Scotch Valley Country Club won the championship flight of the 18th annual Down River Men's Invitational Sunday.

Artie Fink Jr. and Bernie Deloretto (130) finished second, while Frank Frontino and John Zack (131) took third. Cory Reighard and Tracey Smith (133) placed fourth.

Lance Berkstresser and Shawn Foor won the first flight with a 131. Ron Hinish and Spencer Hinish (132) finished second, while Eric Wise and Walt Rose (135) placed third. Bryan James and Wes Elder (138) finished third.

Ryan Ritchey and Kellen Stiffler won the second flight with a 139. Robert Smith and Mike Smith (141) placed second, while Keith Walter and Steve Turiano (142) took third. Bill Allen and Joe Piotti (143) finished fourth.

Joe Ernest and Dave Hummel won the third flight with a 140. Don Cottle and Mike Cottle (143) finished second, while Dave McCahan and Bill Phillips (147) took third. There was a three-way tie for fourth among the teams of Randy Ritchey and Joe Wachter, Nathan Michael and Brad Swindell and Bob Deremer and Mike Gearing at 149.

Gary Henderson and Alan Over won the fourth flight with a 145, while Curt Whitesel and Brian Lewis (148) took second. Bernie George and Bob Gruber tied Gary Bard and Bryan Campbell for third at 150.

Mike McGhee and Chuck LaSalle tied with Skyle Calhoun and Mike Romeo tied for first in the fifth flight with a 144. Mike Lilly and Wally McIlroy (145) took third. Carl Michael Sr. and Bill Neuder tied with Ray Kallai and Tony Farrell at fourth at 146.

Steve Metzger and Bob Walls won the sixth flight with a 145. Chris Metzger and Jeff Mearkle tied with Danny Smith and Brady Smith for second at 146. Brian Baker and Daryl Detwiler (148) placed fourth.

Scott Pletcher and Tom Shreve won the seventh flight with a 145. Scoop Sample and Lou Angelo (147) finished second, while Bob Mitchell and Hoby Bingham (149) took third. Tom Greenier and Dan Rowlands (150) placed fourth.

Kevin Steel and Tom Newingham won the eighth flight with a 145, while Bill Burket and Rick Paul (152) took second. Bill Kerr and Tom Kline tied with Terr Means and Jeff Swartzwelder for third at 153.

Bob Forshey and Bill Davis won the ninth flight with a 154, while Buck Helsel and Donnie Black (156) placed second. Brad Wierman and Tim Furry tied with Walt Spacht and Mike Cook for third at 161.

Summit

CRESSON - Russ and Brent Krug scored 36 points to win flight A of the Summit Country Club's Father/Son/Daughter Two-Player Scramble Sunday.

Artie Fink Sr. and Artie Fink Jr. (32) finished second. Dr. Jim Repko and Matt Repko won a scorecard playoff against Joe and Kevin Quinn to win flight B after both scored 26.

Andy Carney and Mike Carney won flight C with 18, while Eldon and Todd Ritchey (17) took second. John and Sam Klock won flight D with a 25, while Felix and Joe Kos (18) took second.

Skill winners were Matt Repko (closest tee shot on 4), Joe Quinn (closest tee shot on 8) and Artie Fink Jr. (closest tee shot on 12).

Frank Frontino, Marty Finklestine and Frank Cammarata carded a 59 to win the State Representative Gary Haluska Golf Outing last Friday.

Dan Thomas, Danny Thomas and Roy Holtz (61) finished second, while Jack Calandra, Bob Biter and Adam Moreland (61) took third.

Skill winners were Regis Tremel (long putt on 2), Bob Biter (closest tee shot on 4), Joe Phillips (straightest drive on 5), Matt Douthit (closest second shot on 7), Danny Thomas (closest tee shot on 12), Adam Mattis (longest putt on 15) and Frontino (closest second shot on 17).

Sylvan Hills

HOLLIDAYSBURG - Barb Soyster, Mary Barnes, Linda McKee and Kim Marchi took first place in the Sylvan Hills Ladies Golf Association Tuesday morning scramble.

Sandy Murphy, Diana Naugle, Suzie Green and Ann Augustine finished second, while Leah Geissinger, Sue Green and Helen Singel took third. On June 16, Hedy Delbaggio was closest to the line on eight.

Bill and Dave Snyder carded a 75 to win the Father's Day's Father and Son Tournament. Ray and Gary Naugle (77) finished second, while Rick and Jules Tangeman (79) took third.

Western Pa. Golf

EBENSBURG - Ebensburg's Joe Cavalier carded a 73 to win the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association's amateur qualifier at the Ebensburg Country Club June 18.

Ebensburg's P.J. Snell carded a 93 and didn't qualify.

In a U.S. Junior Sectional Tuesday at Cedarbrook Golf Course, Tipton's Jimmy Ferguson tied for ninth at 160. Bedford's Cameron Sprowls (164) finished 17th.

Tom Koehle carded a 75 and tied for 29th in the WPGA's 105th Open Championship at the Westmoreland Country Club Tuesday.

Bedford's Joshua Leibfreid (77) tied for 53rd.

North East Juniors

UNIONTOWN - Tyrone's James Russell (86) finished second in the Pine Valley Division of the North East Junior Golf Tour Monday at Uniontown Country Club.

Park Hills

Darlene Grove carded a 64 to win the ladies individual event. Linda Wise (68) and Nancy Moore (76) took second and third, respectively. Teresa Rothrauff and Pat Frederick (79) tied for fourth.

Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON - Larry Newton and Ed Gargula carded 40 to take the low gross in the Huntingdon Country Club's Big Orange Golf League.

Bill Landis won the low net with a 34. Dr. Bill Frazier's drive on the par 3 ninth hole was a shot of the day.
