My sports claim to fame is: Being on the bus with the great Gene Tenace when I was broadcasting for the Spikes in 2006. We were a St. Louis affiliate then and on a bus trip to Williamsport we were watching "Anchorman." One of the famous lines in the movie is when one of the characters says "Gene Tenace at the plate and.WHAMMMYY!" It was pretty cool, watching that movie and sitting behind Tenace, who was mentioned in the movie on a bus headed to Bowman Field. To top it all off, he got up, flexed his muscles to show that even though he was a roving hitting instructor in the minor leagues, he was still very much a tough guy.
If I were the czar of local sports, the one thing I would change would be: Bring common sense to the game of baseball. Not much of it currently exists.
