'Idol' favorite plays Byham

PITTSBURGH - "American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta will be in concert at 8 p.m. July 28 at the Byham Theater.

Ceramic art on exhibit

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will exhibit works by artist Lee Renninger in the show "Threaded Line" through July 18 at 709 Penn Gallery.

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

'Honus & Me' takes plate

JENNERSTOWN - "Honus & Me," a play by Steven Dietz adapted from the book by Dan Gutman, will be performed at the Mountain Playhouse from June 16 to June 28.

The play will be presented at 8 p.m. June 16 to 20 and June 23 to 27, 2 p.m. June 17 to 24 and 3 p.m. June 21 to 28.

"Honus & Me" tells the story of little league player Joey Stoshack, who finds the most valuable baseball card in the world, the T-206 Honus Wagner, while cleaning out an elderly neighbor's attic. However, Joey soon discovers the card's real value when it summons Honus himself, who escorts his young friend back in history to the seventh game of the 1909 World Series.

Photographer gets solo show

UNIVERSITY PARK - The Palmer Museum of Art on the Penn State University Park campus will present the work of photographer Steve McCurry with a major exhibition of his photographs from June 21 through Aug. 16.

"Face of Asia: Steve McCurry Photographs" will feature 80 images drawn from his extensive work in India, Cambodia, Afghanistan and Tibet.

McCurry has shot for Time, Newsweek and National Geographic. He has been awarded the title Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographer's Association and LIFE magazine's World Photo Award.

The public is invited to three free gallery talks in the exhibition at 12:10 p.m. June 26, July 10 and Aug. 14.

The Palmer Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The museum will be closed July 4.

CLP auditions for 'Steel'

EBENSBURG - The Cresson Lake Playhouse will hold auditions for "Steel Magnolias" at 4 p.m. July 15 at the Ebensburg Rehearsal Hall, 526 W. Ogle St.

"Steel Magnolias" was a 1987 o ff-Broadway play before being adapted into a hit film in 1989.

The production is under the direction of Robin Reese, who previously directed CLP's "Chase Me Comrade."

All roles are available. Scripts are available for review at the CLP business office at the Rehearsal Hall. "Steel Magnolias" will be performed Sept. 3 through Sept. 12.
