I am helping to coach a local youth baseball team now and parent participation in our practices and our games has been outstanding. I am thankful to the moms and dads who have stepped up to help, but I know some teams have struggled to get willing volunteers.
For parents who are on the sidelines and wonder if the coaches need help, don't be shy about stepping up to ask them.
I know our team is much better as a result of parent involvement, and suspect that a lot of other volunteer coaches in the area feel the same way as me.
With the right kind of constructive participation, one that is centered on the well being of the kids first, youth sports can be an outstanding learning experience for our children.
