On March 27, 28 and 29, the Holliday Dance Competition Team traveled to Pittsburgh to compete in the Dance Educators of America Regional Dance Competition. The 60-member competition team, ranging in age from 6 to 20 years, arrived to showcase their 25 show-stopping dances. Holliday Dance left the competition with an astounding 2 Platinum Awards, the highest awarded at the competition, as well as 14 Gold and 9 Silver Medals. The Holliday Dance Competition Team also placed at the top of their categories for many of their routines.
The highest accolades of the weekend went to the competition team's Junior Production routine and their Senior Tap dance. The Lion King, the Junior Production routine, was awarded a Platinum Award and was also the second highest scoring routine in the junior production category for the entire competition. The Lion King, choreographed by Diana McGough and Mandi Murphy, also was awarded a cash award for top choreography for all junior productions. Mama Mia, the Senior Tap routine, was also awarded the prestigious Platinum Award. Mamma Mia, choreographed by Diana McGough, was also honored as the judges' choice for "Audience Favorite".
Several other Holliday Dance routines were also awarded with high accolades. The Little Acro number, Jellicle Cats, choreographed by Mandi Murphy, was awarded a gold medal and was honored with 1st Place for all Junior Lines. The Tap Trio, Boogie Wonderland, choreographed by Marissa Carney and performed by Jadin Ray, Alexis Shaw, and Paige Shaw, was awarded a gold medal and placed 2nd Place for all Pre-Teen Trios. The Small Fry Jazz routine, Hit the Road Jack, choreographed by Sharon Hollingshead, was awarded 3rd Place overall for Small Fry Groups, in their first time competing! Annie and Abby Maucieri were also recognized for their exceptional ballet talent, and were awarded half-scholarships to attend Dance Educators of America's National Ballet Summer Workshop.
