Combine:
3 cups flour
2 packages yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Heat 2 cups milk and 1/2 cup water at 120 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit
Add wet ingredients to dry mixture, beat well. Stir in approximately 2 3/4 cups more flour (enough to make a very stiff batter). Spoon into 2 greased 4 1/2-by-8 1/2-by-2 1/2 loaf pans. Sprinkle tops with corn meal (optional). Cover and let rise in warm place, 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes. Remove form pan immediately and cool on rack. Slice, bake and enjoy.
"I found this recipe on a yeast package," Dively wrote. "I have been making it for family and friends for 20 years. It is very inexpensive to make and can be made in my mixer which eliminates hand mixing. It's especially good with homemade jellies, jams and marmalades."
