David Mark Slat, 60, 217 Leaf Lane, Hollidaysburg, died Monday at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William and Margaret (Germuska) Slat. He married Betsy Biller June 26, 1974, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Cresson.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Dr. David Frederick Slat (Dr. Stacy King Slat) of Meriden, Conn., and Christopher Sullivan Slat at home; a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Slat at home; a brother, Christopher W. Slat of Oshkosh, Wis.; two sisters: Kathleen Irvin of Hollidaysburg and Mary Ann Fricke of Jacksonville, Fla.; and parents-in-law, Fred and Olean Biller of Cresson. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Mark Slat.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Mr. Slat was president of Blair Senior Services Inc., where he had worked for 35 years.
He was a member of the last graduating class of Gallitzin High School in 1970, received a bachelor's degree in economics in 1974 from Penn State University and a master's degree in industrial relations from St. Francis College in 1976.
Mr. Slat's two greatest joys were his family and his dedication to the senior citizens of Blair County.
He was past president and officer of the Pennsylvania and national Associations of Area Agencies on Aging and member of the Attorney General's Task Force for the Protection of Older Pennsylvanians.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held Friday afternoon (www.stevensmortuary.com). A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lakemont, Father Mark Begly officiating. Committal at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Cresson.
